Starting June 20, construction is set to begin on the 2022 R&R project, and is expected to last 210 days.
The project is essential to improving and maintaining the District water system and will enhance fire protection and water service reliability in your area. The project consists of installing approximately 9,200 linear feet of 8-inch water line, 300 linear feet of 12-inch water line, replacing 235 water service lines and/or meter pits, installing new fire hydrants, and associated asphalt removal and replacement. You will receive additional correspondence in the near future from our Contractor selected for this work, Vortex Services.
The project area is bounded by E. 72nd Avenue to the north, E. 70th Avenue to the south, Quebec Street to the east, and Monaco Street to the west. The project area also includes segments of E. 70th Place, Magnolia Street, E. 71st Avenue, Niagara Street, Olive Street, Pontiac Street, Poplar Street, and Poplar Court.
All residences and businesses in the project area will have their water service lines replaced and transferred from the existing water main to the new water main. All service transfers and replacements are anticipated to be completed with a maximum service interruption of 4 hours. The Contractor is required to provide notification with a minimum of 48 hours prior to interruption of service. Some meter pits will be relocated from their current location into the yard area and will require access to the property. There will also be some occasional service interruptions in addition to the 4-hour water service transfer while this work is underway. The Contractor will closely coordinate any service outages with businesses in the project area to minimize disruption to the company during regular working hours.
The Contractor shall will keep access open for public transportation, mailboxes accessible for delivery of mail by the U.S. Postal Service, and access open for trash pick-up services. During the 210-day construction period, there will be temporary partial road closures in the area and interruptions to property access during work hours (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday thru Friday). Detours and "No Parking" signs will be posted as parking will not be allowed on the street in the area of construction activities. In addition, the Contractor will provide advanced notice of road closures and detours to the affected properties. Vehicles parked in no-parking zones may be subject to towing at the vehicle owner's expense. Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated.
