[ARCHIVED] Spring in Colorado - Be prepared for a Wet or Dry Season

Irrigation season (April 15 - Oct 15) is just around the corner. South Adams is including a Spring irrigation start-up insert in your next bill and is provided here. It is loaded with helpful information including how you can receive a free lawn audit.

Drought conditions persist in many areas of Colorado as mountain snowpack remains below average. However, we are still hopeful that spring snow showers will arrive to help our landscapes.

Although the South Adams outdoor irrigation season officially begins on April 15th, temperatures can dip below freezing well into May, so use caution when you turn your system on. Refer to the billing insert for recommendations and procedures for both types of irrigation systems.

Wet or dry, don’t be in a hurry to start watering your lawn. Leaving your lawn dormant until May can save a significant amount of water. Hand water trees and smaller areas that need a little more attention if dry conditions persist. And, watering twice per week (after 6:00 pm and before 10:00 am) will typically keep your lawn in good shape.

As we continue to monitor drought conditions, updates will be posted on the District’s website advising customers if additional watering requirements will be necessary this season. Notices will be posted on the District’s website home page at under News & Announcements.
